“Why center a script around funeral arrangements?” That was the question we asked when we read Ee.Ma.Yau’s plot. It was only when we got to experience the movie that we were wowed by the rich screenplay😃
Ee.Ma.Yau took elements of daily activities and habits to attract us. Eeshi was an average guy living by the beach with his family going through the routine until his father collapsed and died one night. There were no extravagant costume/make-up designs, location spots, or action scenes; it was this extreme simplicity that made us relate to the narrative.
What set the film apart was the way the funeral arrangements gradually showcased the egocentrism and arrogance starting from Eeshi’s family to their surroundings. The first became the last, the neglected became the honored, and this was carried out with the use of imagery and symbolism.
The awkward comedy was terrific, we laughed till we didn’t have any strength left🤣 The acting, the acting, the acting was so genuine, we even wondered if the actors memorized any dialogues because the lines just flowed naturally. The editing and sound effects produced a wonderful film.
Thank you crew and cast!! Any more words on Ee.Ma.Yau will be a waste of time, applause, please!
