Delicious
—Churuli started out on a relaxing note as we were introduced to the cops and their funny plan to apprehend the criminal. Then, gradually, we became uncomfortable and confused as the cops entered the weird and mysterious village.
We were stuck in a labyrinth like the two cops trying to make sense of the environment and figure out who was who.
How did Vinoy Thomas come up with such an intriguing screenplay? Was Churuli showcasing the strength of unity? That’s what we observed with the villagers all working together against the cops to conceal information
—When it came to visual and sound effects, Churuli, hands down, won! The teams did everything to invite us to explore this village and just like Shajeevan (Vinay Forrt), we wanted to leave that place as quickly as possible
—The narration, in the introductory scene, was much needed to set the story, otherwise, it would have been hard to understand the film
—With household names like Chemban Vinod Jose (playing Antony), Vinay Forrt, Jaffar Idukki (playing the tavern keeper), and Soubin Shahir, there’s no need to worry about the quality of acting. The supporting cast also nailed their parts
—Color grading was fantastic, the green color palette throughout the film emphasized the omnipresent mystic forest and self-awareness
Bland
—One thing that really stood out was the excessive profane language, oh goodness…it was above and beyond what we needed to hear 🙉 Not sure if it served a specific purpose
—Churuli was an innovative plot, amazingly inspired; however, at the end of the day, we failed to grasp the central message of the story. The film will certainly remain a creative one for decades to come but not quite memorable after all
