All we can say is WOW!!!!!!
There are stories that gladden your heart, then there are ‘those’ stories that pierce your soul, that’s what Gargi was! The film started in an unassuming manner, taking us on a quiet promenade, then the unfolding of the layers became more and more captivating that we didn’t even want to take a toilet break.
The screenplay was full of mystery, the truth was hidden in the teeny tiny details. Gargi (Sai Pallavi) and Advocate Indrans (Kaali Venkat) worked well together and were an amazing representation of two marginalized individuals against the world.
There were special touches that made ‘Gargi’ unique, e.g. only the victim girl’s body was shown throughout the movie (not her face), Gargi’s constant flashbacks to the time she was preyed on by her tutor, and the different presentations of females (a raped girl, a transgender, a career woman, and a lady tainted by a raping case). Anddddd the revelation at the end was MIND-BLOWING 😱
Must confess, this is the first time we watched a film without taking note of the production (i.e. cinematography, sound, editing, etc), blame it on the poignant story 😉 Had the production been poor, we would have definitely noticed, so THANK YOU to the crew for a job well done!
We leave you with one very crucial line that summarized the message of ‘Gargi’: “Having been born a girl each day is World War 3, anyone can be our enemy. We win some, we lose some. But the way in which you handle your defeat, this world will know your true worth. Welcome to womanhood”
