Blood Vessel Podcast Transcript

Wassup Nganda family and visitors, how y’all doin? My apologies, if you can’t hear my voice well, I’m fighting the flu right now, please bear with me!
Let me just clap for Moses Inwang because Blood Vessel is his best work! Anyone who has followed Moses’s projects will know that he has a daring attitude and enjoys directing creative stories. And Blood Vessel surpassed his previous films as the execution was very refined in every department
We give the film a BBQ and say it’s Worth Watching

Delicious

—Finally, we get to see a story that is not Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa! Nothing wrong with these ethnic tribes but abeg it’s time to have stories from other regions of Nigeria. We got to hear what the Ijaw language sounds like, who are the people, and the challenges they face.
—Performance was outstanding across all actors, David Ezekiel who played Abbey and Adaoobi Dibor who played Oyin, beautiful! Especially the foreign actors who played the Russian roles because there is a tendency to bring foreign actors who can’t even act. But not here in Blood Vessel, everyone sold us a story and we bought it! We felt the love, rage, anger, and betrayal prevailing in the vessel
—What made Blood Vessel so special compared to Moses’s previous movies was the different approach to his directing style. He was intentional about the messages he wanted to convey about brotherly love, greed, and activism. Hence, every frame, blocking of actors, and camera focus were calculated. The movie was told in an unpredictable way which kept the momentum going. Additionally, the sound quality was crisp and the photography captivating
—Talking about the messages addressed, there were many, which was very appreciated. I will zoom in on the title Blood Vessel, which can mean a boat where blood is shed, or if we look at the biological term a blood vessel is a channel that carries blood in the body. The core of the story was to highlight that we are all related by blood, regardless of which ethnicity you come from in Nigeria or the country you come from in Africa. As a result, we should stand for one another and this message was reinforced by Boma and his friends protesting against the oil company, Olotu and his brother, as well as the coastal guards in the different countries where the boat stopped
—The score and sound effects worked well to create a suspenseful and scary atmosphere, loved the Gregorian chant that was included when the Russian characters were in view

Bland

—There was no parallel story! This obviously made the film a bit redundant as we kept seeing the same faces over and over again. However, this may have been done intentionally so we could feel trapped with the characters in this vessel
—Promiscuous girl! Promiscuous girl! The love story of Abbey and Oyin was a clear glorification of promiscuity which defied our African values. She didn’t have to show her bra in front of the camera and we didn’t have to see how their lust was elevated to the extent of disrespecting parents
—It would have been more realistic to show how the 6 guys struggled being trapped in that vessel, I mean where did they go when they wanted to ease themselves? Even though, we saw a bucket how come it was not full or even closed to prevent the smell from coming out

Once again, we congratulate Moses Inwang for a work well done, catch Blood Vessel on Netflix. Peace n blessings!
