Artist Review (short film)… a deeper narrative would have helped
Year: 2020
Genre: Family, Sickness, Drama
Cast: Krishnan Potti, Nitha Promy, Ajay Gopinath, Madona Mendez
Director: Tony James
Writer: Tony James
Cinematographer: Alax Tharakan
Summary: A peek into the impact a former artist’s work had on the people around him
Overall Rating: Nuts
‘Artist’ was a quiet and subtle story; it was heart-warming to see the bedridden artist and his colorful achievements. A deeper narrative would have been more significant to see a bigger scope of the artist’s work

Delicious
—Though ‘Artist’ wasn’t filmed in a cinematic way, somehow it worked 😀 Guess we were more taken away by the environment. Kudos to the set design team for the splendid decor; we enjoyed the colorful paintings as well as other arts and crafts in the artist’s house. They created a calm feeling
—Grandpa (playing the artist) did a great job; though he didn’t speak, his face expressed so many emotions that we almost cried, it was quite touching
—‘Artist’ placed a great accent on the role of colors in life by describing the positive change they bring.
In the words of Grandpa, “be grateful for all the colors you have in your life”, whether you are color blind or not, the most important thing is that you can see colors
Bland
—The rest of the actors, sadly, didn’t shine. It seemed like they were still rehearsing the lines in their mind 🙁
—In general, ‘Artist’ was a nice story but without much to hold on to. We didn’t really get to witness Grandpa’s larger impact on his student, Rajeev (Ajay Gopinath), or his early days as an artist with a purpose
