Simplicity at its best! Oh my goodness. Second Innings took a common theme and elevated it to a meaningful status. We were touched! Job well done for the cast and crew. It’s so Worth Watching and gets a Feast rating
It’s so great to review a Malayalam short film after a long time! Wassup Nganda family and visitor, this is your host, Rose, bringing you our take on Budget Lab’s recent film release Second Innings. If you can’t hear my voice really well, I apologize, I’m currently fighting the flu, so please bear with me.
Delicious
—Having recently experienced death in my family, the story was very touching and relatable. Thank you to Hena Chandran & Anuraj D C for exploring the topic of life after a funeral. I love the various characters who made the story realistic; we saw some people already talking about Bindu’s remarriage, others planning on where Bindu will stay, the activities she’ll be involved in, and interestingly, they were all making these arrangements without involving Bindu (Sreela Nalledam).
And this is exactly what happens in real life, a lot of gossip and talks behind the widow’s back
—The acting was spot on! The make-up team did a good job of making Bindu look tired and weak. Sreela took charge of her role, her facial and body expressions radiated the immense sadness she was going through and when it was time to speak out, we believed her. The supporting actors’ natural performance enhanced the narrative
—The wall painting showing lots of happy women at the beginning of the movie was so symbolic as it summarized the moral of the story “Live out loud”. Don’t dwell on others’ opinions, be you, be happy, you have all the strength to make it in life.
Bland
—The little negative was the English subtitles which needed to be better designed. There were long sentences that were not broken down into paragraphs, so it was hard to read them from one extreme of the screen to the other. Moreover, several words were attached, so we literally had to pause every now and then to slowly understand the sentences
Second Innings won the Season 6 Malayalam Short Film Production Contest, which was well deserved. Please watch the movie, it’s on YouTube. And it’s my time to say ‘bye bye’
