If I’m not mistaken, this is going to be our first time reviewing an animated film! Wow, Ami was a beautiful watch, so great to see our African stories in animation. The crew worked hard and it paid off!
The downside of the film comes to the screenplay as it was mostly plain but it’s still worth watching and gets a Nuts rating

Welcome Nganda family, welcome ladies and gentlemen, my name is Rose, bringing you our take on the short film Ami

Delicious

—It’s always a pleasure to see African faces and stories in animation. Literally, we felt like we were viewing a real Lagos atmosphere because the roads looked the same, there was trash, there was a political party banner, and it was so funny that the banner misspelled the candidate’s name and they still went ahead and printed it, the houses looked authentic. Well done

Femi’s face with a big scar and veins popping out of his hands looked genuine, that’s how a typical thug would look like, and candidate Williams’s big belly, wow!

—Ami spotlighted corruption and it was clear that the people in power just chop money while the clinic doesn’t even have electricity! Eh!!

There comes a time when our conscience needs to wake up and speak against these injustices

—The car chase scene was well-directed! I love the details on the road with the big trucks interfering, and other cars colliding, and there was a nice aerial view as the cinematography was so engaging that we lived that stressful moment with the characters

Bland

—It all comes down to the story, which forms the foundation of the film.
A story on corruption is a casual one, what would have made it more intriguing was developing the plot beyond corruption, and crafting fascinating characters who would carry the screenplay to a deeper level

—The 3D animation wasn’t too refined with the characters’ movements appearing more robotic than natural.

Some sound effects were missing during Femi’s girlfriend’s scenes, such as footsteps or the sound of the fan, etc

According to their YouTube page, Ami is BlackIce Studioz’s first short film and we say kudos to them and look forward to more projects; please support their work by checking out Ami on YouTube
